Sparke Helmore’s new Projects and Government Commercial Partner Paul Calvert is excited about the growth in Queensland’s construction industry.
Paul, who was appointed in January, spent seven years as Regional Legal Counsel for a leading construction contractor and during his time in-house was recognised as one of Australia’s leading construction and infrastructure lawyers.
He has acted on projects throughout the East Coast, Tasmania and in Western Australia, and he has acted on some of Queensland’s largest and most iconic projects.
“The opportunity to lead the next phase of growth for the construction practice in Queensland is an exciting one,” Paul said.
“The firm’s commitment to regional areas, including the recent opening of a Cairns office, as well as the strong cross-referral culture, means that I am looking forward to the next chapter of my career at Sparke Helmore.”
Paul has regularly acted for developers and principals, builders and developer-builders of all sizes, state and local government and government departments, suppliers, consultants and bank and non-bank lenders.
He assists clients at every phase of a project’s lifecycle as well as dispute resolution. His expertise spans residential, commercial and industrial developments, as well as the health, education, transport and energy sectors.
National Practice Group Leader for Projects and Government Commercial Paul Tobin said: “Paul is a highly regarded expert known for his collaborative approach and is an exciting addition to our national team.
“It’s also a great leap forward for us to have someone of Paul’s calibre take the lead in growing our construction practice across Queensland.”
Paul will be based in the Brisbane office and was previously at Gadens.
