The new President of the Women Lawyers Association of Queensland (WLAQ) is keen to promote the group’s theme for 2026-27: “Knowledge is power”.
Barrister Kerala Drew took the reins from Coroners Court Senior Counsel Assisting Sarah Ford, at the WLAQ’s annual general meeting on 30 July.
Ms Drew will be joined by Vice Presidents Jillian Barrett (also Australian Women Lawyers Representative) and Kimia Zarei, with Emma Davis as Secretary and Sarah Al-Askari as Treasurer
“I am incredibly honoured to lead WLAQ alongside such an accomplished and passionate group of women,” she said.
“Our committee brings together practitioners from across the profession, each contributing unique skills, experiences and perspectives.
“I look forward to working together over the coming year to continue championing women in the law, fostering meaningful connections, and delivering initiatives that support women at every stage of their legal careers.
“We believe that when women are equipped with knowledge, mentorship and opportunity, they are empowered to lead, advocate with confidence and shape the future of our profession.”
Ms Drew said throughout the year, WLAQ would continue to provide opportunities for learning, meaningful dialogue and professional growth, to ensure members had the tools and support they needed to thrive.
The committee’s work will be the focus of WLAQ’s Monthly Breakfast Club for August.
