QLS welcomes new Queensland Attorney-General

Queensland Law Society has warmly welcomed the appointment of the Hon Shannon Fentiman as Attorney-General and Minister for Justice, Women and the Prevention of Domestic and Family Violence and congratulates the Hon Yvette D’Ath on her appointment as Minister for Health and Ambulance Services.

Queensland Law Society President Luke Murphy said The Hon Shannon Fentiman is both an experienced Minister and an experienced solicitor and an excellent choice as Queensland’s next Attorney-General.

“We applaud her appointment to this important Cabinet portfolio of Attorney-General and Minister for Justice, Women and the Prevention of Domestic and Family Violence as well as becoming the critical role of first legal officer,” he said.

“Queensland Law Society is proud to see a dedicated and capable solicitor again in the role of Attorney-General for Queensland and looks forward to working with the Minister on the many positive commitments in the Government’s response to the QLS Election Call to Parties statement.

“Congratulations are also due to the Hon Yvette D’Ath on her appointment to the Health portfolio. Minister D’Ath’s new portfolio is of critical importance to the people of Queensland,” Mr Murpy said.

“QLS has maintained an excellent relationship with the former Attorney-General and we have worked together on numerous issues of significant law reform for the public good from high profile things such as the Human Rights Act to less obvious but important reforms such as alternate document execution methods in the COVID pandemic. We wish Minister D’Ath the very best for her next challenge.”
