Attorney-General to launch child protection blueprint at lunch event

Attorney-General Deb Frecklington will launch the State Government’s blueprint to overhaul Queensland’s child protection system at this month’s Queensland Media Club lunch.

Ms Frecklington will deliver the response to the In Plain SightReview into System Responses to Child Sexual Abuse, a Queensland Child Death Review Board report, at the Brisbane Convention and Exhibition Centre on 16 June.

The reforms will cover all industries and sectors that deal with children, from education and sport to health and law.

“We cannot accept a system that fails vulnerable children. Protecting children and restoring confidence in the child safety system is a key priority for the Crisafulli Government,” Ms Frecklington said.

“We are doing this for every Queensland family because whether it’s daycare or local sport, every Queensland parent deserves to know exactly how their kids are being protected.

“Child safety is one of the most important responsibilities of any government. Every child deserves to be safe, supported and given the opportunity to thrive.

“The In Plain Sight report lays bare the need for reform.”

The board made 28 recommendations to strengthen child safeguarding in the report, which was released in December 2025.

The recommendations focused on improving leadership, institutional and organisational practice, responses to victim-survivors; strengthening intelligence gathering and actioning, building community awareness around child sexual abuse, and reforming the criminal justice system.

The review focused on the early childhood education and care sector, police services, and the blue card system, using the matter of Ashley Paul Griffith as a case study.

Tickets sales for the event close midnight, 9 June.
