President’s 2020 term nears its end

Society CEO Rolf Moses has acknowledged his contribution in a year that was anything but normal.

“2020 has been a year of change, loss and opportunity,” he said. “President Murphy’s commitment and dedication ensured that the profession united and quickly responded to the challenges we faced, which was key in enabling the critical work of the profession to continue throughout the year.”

His sentiments were echoed by Deputy President Elizabeth Shearer, who will take office as QLS President from 1 January 2021.

“It was a privilege to work on the Council with Luke and to serve as Deputy President of the Society in 2020,” she said. “Luke’s inclusive leadership, work ethic and contributions this year have been significant and allowed us to support the profession in ways we have never done before. I look very much forward to working with Luke in 2021.”

In 2021, Luke will continue on QLS Council as Immediate Past President and will further his contribution to the profession as an Executive Committee member of the Law Council of Australia.

On 16 December, he delivered an address to guests at the Annual Exchange of Christmas Greetings in the Banco Court, expressing thanks on behalf of Queensland’s solicitors to the profession and all legal stakeholders who responded to the challenges of the COVID-19 pandemic.
