Ceremony to mark retirement of District Court judges Jones and Reid

A valedictory ceremony to honour retiring District Court judges Richard Jones and David Reid – who were both sworn-in as judges on the same day more than a decade ago – is scheduled to be held in Brisbane this Friday 17 September.

The ceremony will recognise the combined two decades of service the judges have given to Queensland and celebrate their combined 80 years of service to the legal profession.

Judge Reid was admitted to the Queensland Bar in 1977 and appointed as a judge of the District Court in early 2010.

Judge Jones was admitted as a barrister to the Supreme Court of Queensland in 1985 and served as a member of the Land Court of Queensland from 2005 to 2010. He was appointed both a judge of both the District Court and the Planning and Environment Court in 2010.

Both judges share the unique milestone of being appointed to the bench on 19 February 2010.

Legal practitioners and members of the public are advised that the valedictory ceremony marking the pair’s retirement will be held in the QEII Courts of Law’s ceremonial Banco Court, in George St, at 9.15am.

Formally invited guests and legal practitioners will be shown to their seats on arrival at the Level 3 Banco Court.

Other practitioners and members of the public are welcome to attend. If the Banco Court reaches capacity, Court 3 on level 3 will be available as an overflow courtroom from which the ceremony can be viewed.

Attendees will be required to check in using the QR code in the main foyer of QEII Courts of Law or by physically recording their details.
