Brisbane solicitor leads Maritime Law Association

Leading Brisbane shipping and transport solicitor Michelle Taylor has been appointed President of the Maritime Law Association of Australia and New Zealand (MLAANZ).

The appointment, which coincided with World Maritime Day on 30 September, was announced in a statement released by Ms Taylor’s firm, Sparke Helmore, this month.

Ms Taylor is an internationally recognised litigator with 25 years’ experience in maritime and transport law, and has advised on some of the most significant Australian and international maritime incidents.

“I am delighted and deeply honoured to be appointed President of MLAANZ, especially on World Maritime Day,” Ms Taylor said. “I am looking forward to working with the wonderful Board of MLAANZ, as well as the dedicated MLAANZ members to support the Australian and New Zealand maritime legal community.”

MLAANZ engages with new legislative initiatives in Australia and New Zealand, works with Comité Maritime International to facilitate the unification and harmonisation of maritime international laws, and consults on admiralty rules and practice.

MLAANZ membership includes lawyers, judges, academics, insurers, government and defence agencies and members of the shipping industry.
