A webinar tomorrow, Tuesday 30 November, will feature Professor William Maley AM, a leading authority on Afghan affairs who will overview the current state of play in Taliban Afghanistan and the broad outlook for those seeking to flee.
His comments will be followed by a panel of refugee law experts exploring prospects and legal processes for Afghan nationals seeking safety in Australia.
The panellists will include:
- Kylie McGrath, Executive Director and Principal Solicitor of Refugee and Immigration Legal Service (RAILS), who will update on current government policy direction and regulation changes around humanitarian visa processing for Afghan nationals.
- Dr Angus Francis, who will overview the humanitarian visas legal process and insights as the solicitor supervising RAILS Afghan high-risk visa clinic.
- Bernie Carrick, an experienced RAILS refugee lawyer, who will outline current processing issues affecting Afghan refugees in Australia who cannot access permanent protection visas.
