Logan refugee charity seeks legal minds

The Refugee Association of Logan (RAL) has issued an urgent call for legal volunteers in Refugee Week.

The Logan charity supports refugees and asylum seekers with material aid, English classes and legal applications.

Association president Chris Miranda said RAL was in dire need of volunteers, especially those with law or education backgrounds.

“We would be grateful for consultations from those who have experience in refugee law, such as lawyers and migration agents,” Mr Miranda said.

He said legal volunteers were needed to provide general migration law advice and to help with a range of applications, including those for citizenship, passports, and humanitarian visas.

Weekly form-filling clinics are held from 9am on Saturdays at Logan Central Library, but Mr Miranda said volunteer hours were flexible.

He suggested legal volunteering with RAL might suit retired lawyers with spare time, or practising lawyers who sought pro-bono work during business hours.
