Career Moves: Carter Newell

Carter Newell is pleased to announce the elevation of three Brisbane lawyers this month and the new appointment of a corporate Special Counsel.

Being elevated to Special Counsel is Stephanie Levesque (insurance). Stephanie Levesque is a part of the property and injury liability team after joining Carter Newell as a law graduate.

Her experience includes acting in personal injuries claims under the Personal Injuries Proceedings Act 2002 (Qld) and common law. She is experienced in recovery claims resulting from property damage and litigated property damage claims. Stephanie has also advised insurers and corporate insureds on indemnity and liability issues. 

Being elevated to Associate are Abraham Hopkins (construction and engineering) and Molly Shelton (energy and resources, and planning and environment).


Abraham Hopkins

Abraham Hopkins is a part of Carter Newell’s construction and engineering team, practising predominantly in dispute resolution. Abraham has acted for principals, contractors, and consultants on a range of matters arising on civil, building, mechanical, electrical and mining projects across Australia. 

He’s also advised underwriters based within Australia and internationally on various types of claims across the construction and engineering industry, involving defective design or workmanship and professional liability.  This has included advising on policy interpretation and indemnity, liability, quantum, and acting for insurers as defence counsel and in subrogated recovery actions.


Molly Shelton

Molly Shelton advises across the energy and resources, and planning and environment teams. Molly’s expertise lies in advising on the sale, acquisition and development of mining and petroleum projects, the impact of various petroleum and mining regulatory regimes, environmental and project approvals, planning approvals and appeals, land access and compensation arrangements, making agreements for water bores in Queensland and cultural heritage and native title requirements across Australia.

Peter Motti has joined the firm’s corporate team as a Special Counsel.


Peter Motti

Peter has extensive experience advising clients, both nationally and internationally, on corporate governance, mergers and acquisitions, capital raisings, employee share schemes, commercial contracts, and general commercial matters within a broad range of industry sectors including agriculture, technology, engineering and infrastructure, government, real estate, and communications. 

He has a special interest in capital raisings having advised multiple clients in the early-stage tech industry and agribusiness industry.
