With about one in seven Australians aged 65 or over experiencing elder abuse, practitioners are invited to hear Age Discrimination Commissioner Robert Fitzgerald speak in Brisbane next month.
Robert will address the Queensland Law Society’s Elder Law Breakfast and Workshop at Law Society House on Friday, 14 June, to coincide with World Elder Abuse Awareness Day the day after.
A two-part workshop from 9am to 12.45pm will follow the 7.30am breakfast.
Session one will discuss controversies and hot topics, and offer practical advice, then an interactive session two will focus on best practice principles when working with older people.
Workshop presenters will be:
- Rebecca Anderson, Solicitor, Aged and Disability Advocacy Law; Chair, QLS Elder Law Committee
- Dr Anne-Louise McCawley, Community Engagement and Education Leader, Caxton Community Legal Centre
- Bill Mitchell, Principal Solicitor, Townsville Community Law; Member, QLS Elder Law Committee
- Nicky Mitchell, Managing Senior Lawyer, Caxton Community Legal Centre; Member, QLS Elder Law Committee
The workshop is worth three CPD points. Register here.
