QCOSS forums on Human Rights Act

The Queensland Council of Social Service (QCOSS) Human Rights Network will hold two online forums next week to discuss the Human Rights Act 2019 (Qld).

On Wednesday, 22 May, a panel made up of Tile Imo, Associate Director – Health Justice Partnerships, Caxton Legal Centre; Karen Williams, Principal Solicitor ADA Law; Samantha Shipman, Manager Investigations Team, Office of the Public Guardian; and Deanne Lawrie, Regional and Remote Community Engagement Officer, Elder Abuse Prevention Unit, UnitingCare, will share insights about the Act as it relates to older people.

Upholding the Rights of Older People will be held online from 9.30am to 11am. Register here.

On Monday, 27 May, Professor Susan Harris-Rimmer will discuss progress of her independent review of the Act, including how it is serving the community, and areas where it can be strengthened.

Professor Harris-Rimmer is due to provide her report to the Attorney-General by 20 September.
