Almost all adults sentenced for strangulation in this State receive a custodial sentence, with the average sentence being 2.5 years, Queensland Sentencing Advisory Council (QSAC) data shows.
QSAC’s latest Sentencing Spotlight examined sentencing outcomes for the offence of choking, suffocation or strangulation in a domestic setting under Section 315A of the Criminal Code Act 1899 (Qld), in matters finalised in Queensland courts in 2015-16 and 2022-23.
