Demi-Ann Dawes knows how to get results – progressing from a personal assistant to law clerk, law graduate to lawyer.

The Results Legal solicitor was one of more than 150 newly admitted lawyers in Brisbane on 5 August at the Banco Court. Her admission was moved by Anna Taylor, Principal at Results Legal and head of the trade credit and legal recovery teams.

“I chose Anna Taylor, a principal of Results Legal, to move my admission,” Demi-Ann said.

“My journey with Results began two years ago in a front-of-house role within our operations team. I quickly formed a strong working relationship with Anna, and soon after, I transitioned into the Trade Credit and Legal Recovery team as her Personal Assistant.

“From that moment, I had the privilege of shadowing Anna, receiving her mentorship, and observing her remarkable expertise and client-focused approach to her work.

“Under her guidance, I progressed from personal assistant to law clerk, law graduate and now lawyer. Anna is not only an exceptional legal professional but also a constant supporter and advocate for her team members, just as she is for her clients.

“She has significantly shaped me as a young professional, and there was no one more fitting to move my admission. It was an honour to start my journey by her side, and beginning this next chapter with her by mine, is a privilege.”

Anna said it was an “incredible honour’ to be chosen to move Demi’s admission.

“I feel so grateful that Demi selected me for this very special moment,” she said.

“Dem started as an admin assistant then became my PA. She immediately demonstrated a real tenacity and grit. She was always looking for opportunities to improve and  worked hard to understand client needs from the beginning.  Demi was very much a go-to person when in admin and was involved in showing many the Results way.

“Her drive and determination set her up really well to transition into a law clerk role and now solicitor.

“She is considered and thorough in understanding client needs matched with strategy and legal position and has already been involved in some juicy matters.”

Demi-Ann said her “competitive nature” helped her achieve her goal while balancing the demands of being a mum to two, full-time work and full-study, and her compassionate nature led to her to the law.

“I often found myself speaking up for those who didn’t share my confidence and calling out bad behaviour when something felt wrong. I am also quite competitive and have always been motivated to work harder and achieve my goals, despite potential barriers,” she said.

“I admired the structure of our legal system and the study of jurisprudence. Our inherent nature to maintain order, resolve disputes and protect justice.

“My competitive nature, combined with my relentless drive to fight for what is right, made law the perfect career choice. It allows me to balance compassion with determination, fighting hard for positive outcomes. Engaging with wonderful clients is a rewarding bonus.”

Demi-Ann is now savouring the admission sitting moment and continuing to learn about trade credit and insolvency matters.

“Apart from the overwhelming nerves shared with my peers, wondering if the past five years of sacrifices, hard work, determination, and sleepless nights had truly led to this moment, the most memorable moment was watching Chief Justice, Justice Bond, and Justice Wilson nod to one another and hearing the confirmation of my admission into the profession,” she recalled.

“As I bowed, I turned to Anna, then to my family and colleagues in the courtroom, unable to contain my smile as I sat down, overcome with an overwhelming sense of pride and accomplishment.”
