A dinner gathering of notaries, dubbed the Haig Convention, may become an annual tradition after the completion of the latest notarial education program last week.
President of the Society of Notaries Queensland, Myles Murphy, opened the program on Friday and also gave a presentation on Saturday about the Society and other information about the role of a notary.
Myles also hosted a dinner on Friday night at the Haig St Bistro in Auchenflower, which more than 40 notaries/prospective notaries and guests attended.
“This collegiate gathering has been christened ‘the Haig Convention’ in acknowledgement of the Hague Convention concerning notary apostilles,” he said.
“There were 21 students – a mix of existing notaries and prospective ones.
“The course was again run at Bond University’s city campus. Professor Peter Zablud, AM and Michael Bula (former President of the Society Of Notaries, Victoria) delivered the bulk of the material.
“We were fortunate to also have Neil McPherson OAM, a former President of the Society Of Notaries, Queensland (on two occasions) deliver a paper on the requirements to become a Notary.”
The Office and Practice of a Notary Microcredential is now a prerequisite for all new notaries.
