Notary program returns for 2025

The notary education program will return this year to Brisbane for just one course. Pictured are last year's attendees.

Practitioners will have only one opportunity this year to become a notary public, with the pre-requisite education program being run in Brisbane in July.

The Office and Practice of a Notary Microcredential is now a prerequisite for all new notaries, and spots in the course are limited.

An initiative by the Society of Notaries Queensland, this microcredential has been developed in partnership with Bond University’s Faculty of Law, and Professor Peter Zablud, author of Principles of Notarial Practice.

President of the Society of Notaries Queensland Myles Murphy said this microcredential would introduce practitioners to the office and work of a notary public, including an understanding of notarial acts in public and private form, and the notary’s rights, obligations and duties in daily practice.

“The course is limited in numbers to allow a fully interactive workshop environment and the ability for question and answers to explore concepts and ideas,” he said.

“Queensland attendees who attain the micro credential qualification are entitled to add the postnominals FQSN (Fellow of the Queensland Societies of Notaries).”

The course is limited to 25 and delivered as a two-day workshop. Practitioners will be assessed on their active participation and completion of a paper after the workshop.

Practitioners can register for the 2025 notarial education program at Bond University’s premises in Brisbane on 25-26 July. The enrolment deadline is 13 July.

The registration fee is $2990 and has remained the same as last year. Registrants who complete the program can claim 12 CPD points.

An informal dinner, dubbed the Haig Convention, is held on the Friday night, 25 July.

“All work and no play makes Jack a dull boy,” Myles said. “For this reason, we have a repeat of the highly successful Hague Convention. Expect warm plates, cold drinks and hot topics of conversation.

“Historically this has been a fabulous evening and by popular demand, has become an integral part of the program.

“Whether as part of your continuing education, or whether you are interested in notarial matters generally, it will be great to see you there.”
