A private event at the Capricorn Food & Wine Festival will feature in the Central Queensland Law Association’s (CQLA) 65th annual conference in Rockhampton next month.
As well as the regular CPD sessions, the two-day program on 6-7 September will include networking drinks, a profession dinner, and an exclusive CQLA Chef’s Table at the festival, which will offer wine and cheese tasting, a live cooking demonstration and a bar tab.
Areas of law will include family, finance, criminal, property, succession, and wills and estates; covering topics such as domestic violence, insolvency, professional practice, court etiquette and trusts accounting.
Day one will culminate in a Profession Dinner at Hummingbird Café at the Rockhampton Museum of Art, where Milestone Pins and the Justice Peter Dutney Memorial Prize will be awarded.
Day two will end at 11.45am, with the festival event beginning at midday.
CQLA President Robert Rooney said the association’s mission was to support connections between lawyers and the community.
“Each year the law conference comes along to bring people together and give a strong sense of community in our work in regional Queensland,” Robert said.
“Regional practice is a close-knit experience. Practitioners often rely on one another for support particularly when working across similar areas of law and this makes the work experience so much more enjoyable – even when one is on the other side of the fence.
“Many grad lawyers come to town to practise and gain experience and those that later leave will often return and always fondly reflect on their time in the regions.
“So, if you aren’t sure what the regions are all about or just want to go to a conference with some friendly faces and catch up on the latest changes in the law, head along to the CQLA conference or, sometimes more importantly, its social functions.”
The conference will be held at Empire Apartments and The Cobbler’s Rooms. Attendees can earn 1 CPD point per hour of attendance. For details and tickets, visit the website.
