Justice Kerri Mellifont will deliver lessons in advocacy next week for the Townsville District Law Association’s CPD Series.
The Supreme Court judge and Queensland Civil and Administrative Tribunal President will present QCAT: Principles, Processes and People and Advocacy in Queensland Courts and Tribunals at the city’s Metropole Hotel on Thursday.
Justice Mellifont was admitted as a barrister in 1994 and appointed silk in 2010. Her Honour has three decades of experience practising in criminal, administrative and regulatory law including at the Public Defender’s Office, the Commonwealth Director of Public Prosecutions and at the private Bar.
Justice Mellifont was appointed Senior Legal Officer at the Forde Inquiry into Child Abuse (1998/1999), Senior Counsel Assisting the Queensland Floods Commission (2011) and Senior Counsel Assisting to the Royal Commission into Violence, Abuse, Neglect and Exploitation of People with Disability (2019-2021).
In 2021, she was appointed a Justice of the Supreme Court of Queensland, and QCAT President.
