The Honourable Patrick Keane AC KC will present the fourth and final Selden Society lecture of the year, Sir Gerard Brennan: Constrained Compassion, on Thursday, 14 November.
Sir Gerard Brennan’s (1928-2022) contribution to the administration of justice is of historical significance, including his judgment in the Mabo case.
Born in Queensland, he was one of the original appointees to the Federal Court in 1977, and in 1981 was appointed to the High Court of Australia.
Following Chief Justice Anthony Mason’s mandatory retirement in 1995, Sir Gerard was elevated to Chief Justice and held that role until 1998.
He was also the first President of the Administrative Appeals Tribunal, serving from 1976-79.
Hosted by Supreme Court Library Queensland, this free lecture will be held in Banco Court at 5.30pm, with light refreshments to be served in the Portrait Gallery afterwards.
