Justice Ward presents equity lecture

This year’s WA Lee Equity Lecture will be presented by the Honourable Justice JK Ward, President – Court of Appeal, Supreme Court of NSW – on A Tour of Contemporary Developments in Equity next month. 

The event on Wednesday, 6 November, will be the 25th Annual WA Lee Equity Lecture presented by Queensland Gives in partnership with the TC Beirne School of Law at The University of Queensland.


The Honourable Justice JK Ward

Justice Ward was admitted as a solicitor of the Supreme Court in 1982. Her Honour was made a partner of Mallesons in 1988.  At that time she was the youngest female partner to be appointed. 

Her Honour was appointed to the Supreme Court of New South Wales in September 2008. She was the first female solicitor directly appointed to the Supreme Court bench.  She sat in the Equity Division of the Court, until her appointment to the Court of Appeal in November 2012.

She was appointed Chief Judge in Equity in March 2017 and appointed President of the Court of Appeal on 6 March 2022.

Chief Justice Bowskill will welcome practitioners and law students to the lecture and the Honourable Margaret McMurdo AC, Chair of Queensland Community Foundation Board of Governors, will make closing remarks.

The WA Lee Equity Lecture is held each year in honour of trusts academic and author, Honorary Professor WA “Tony” Lee.

The series of lectures continues a long tradition of maintaining contemporary debate on matters of equitable jurisdiction, technique, principle and doctrine both in Australia and beyond.

CPD points may be available for this lecture.

The lecture will be held in the Banco Court, Supreme Court of Queensland, George Street at 5.30pm sharp. It is recommended guests arrive from 5pm to clear security. ID is required.

Tickets are free of charge but registration is essential.
