The membership will recognise the outstanding contribution made by Ms Kiefel at the association’s event which celebrates the achievements of females in the profession.
Ms Kiefel, who was born in Cairns, served on the High Court from 2007 to 2023, including as Chief Justice from 2017. In 1987, she became the first woman in Queensland to be appointed Queen’s Counsel, and in 2011 was awarded the Companion in the General Division of the Order of Australia.
Her appointment as a WLAQ member will be one highlight of the 46th Annual Awards Dinner on Saturday, 12 October, where the Leneen Forde AC Woman Lawyer of the Year, Regional Woman Lawyer of the Year, Emergent Woman Lawyer of the Year and Woman of Excellence awards will be presented.
The awards are open to any woman holding a law degree who is actively involved in the legal profession or a law-related field in Queensland, including private practice, community legal service work, government, academia, in-house practice or self-employed.
