From early 2025, the QGov digital identity system will be replaced by the Queensland Digital Identity (QDI) system.
QDI aligns with national standards and security protocols, and allows users to manage a single digital identity with the flexibility to nominate different email addresses for various professional and personal needs.
What changes under QDI
- Single Digital Identity: Legal practitioners will no longer be able to create multiple QGov accounts tied to the same identity documents. They will now use one QDI account to access all relevant services.
Impact on key courts and tribunals platforms
- QCase, Legal Practitioner Portal, Online Services Portal, Domestic and Family Violence Live List: Users will be able to log in with QDI (linked to a personal email) and easily set or update a work email for their account, ensuring any firm or professional correspondence goes to the user’s chosen work address, which can easily be changed if they change firms.
- QTranscripts: Work is still in progress to explore solutions to handle the scenarios to access separate accounts with historical transcript orders. While the QTranscripts platform supports the adding of a business email to an account, this will not assist any legacy accounts that have been created and had transcripts ordered through them.
What this means for legal practitioners
- Consolidated Access: Transitioning to QDI means each practitioner will have a single, secured digital identity.
- Email notifications: Practitioners can designate a preferred work email for receiving updates and notifications, and change this if they move to a different firm.
- Next steps: If there are discrepancies between QGov and QDI details (e.g., mismatched emails or names), these should be resolved prior to the transition to ensure accounts merge smoothly.
Additional support
- Further resources, troubleshooting steps and a direct support line (1800 317 389) are available for practitioners facing issues creating or accessing their QDI.
- If a user gets a message that their credential (eg driver licence) has been used, it likely means they already have a QDI from the Digital Licence App.
- Practitioners who have never used the Digital Licence App can simply convert an active QGov account into a new QDI by following the prompts when they next log in.
