In accordance with Practice Directions issued by Chief Magistrate Brassington, all fresh arrests for Ipswich will be heard in Cairns Magistrates Court today, 6 March, and tomorrow, 7 March 2025.
For Ipswich and South West Region Hub Court for Saturday, 8 March, those matters will also be heard in Cairns Magistrates Court.
Practitioners should ensure they are interfacing all fresh arrests to Cairns Magistrates Court during this time and scanning and emailing all paperwork to Courthouse.Cairns@justice.qld.gov.au (mailto:Courthouse.Cairns@justice.qld.gov.au) and cc Prosecutions.Cairns@police.qld.gov.au (mailto:Prosecutions.Cairns@police.qld.gov.au) so the matters can be placed before the Cairns Magistrates Court.
All communications are to be with Cairns Magistrates Court, as Ipswich Magistrates Courts will be closed during this time.
Discussions will take place with key court stakeholders at the weekend regarding the operation of courts on Monday.
