The Administrative Review Tribunal (ART) has changed its approach to case management to create a more timely and consistent process.
New pathways will be in effect for listings from 1 August 2025, but listing notices issued from this month will reflect the new pathways.
Some reviews will now be listed for a case management hearing before a registrar, including cases where both parties are represented or where it is less likely the review will be resolved without a hearing.
The changes were made in response to stakeholder feedback from the establishment of the ART about the nature, purpose and duration of tribunal case events.
They are expected to lead to fewer and shorter tribunal case events, with final hearings to be held about nine months after lodgment of a review application.
Early directions will be given by the tribunal to help parties adjust, with outreach for self-represented parties to be improved.
Feedback on the changes is invited and can be sent to externalconsultation@art.gov.au.
