Scientists in Folbigg case to speak at UQ

Two Danish scientists involved in the Folbigg case will describe their experience at a University of Queensland (UQ) presentation in Brisbane next week.

In 2023, Professors Michael Toft Overgaard and Mette Nyegaard were instrumental in overturning Kathleen Folbigg’s convictions for murdering her four infant children.

They will be guest speakers at Scientists in the Courtroom next Wednesday for UQ’s annual Mattick Lecture, presented by the university’s Institute of Molecular Bioscience, in conjunction with its TC Beirne School of Law.

They will describe how they became involved and how their research, involving genetics, proteins and calcium signalling, was critical to the Australian mother’s acquittal after she had spent 20 years in prison.

The lecture, which named in honour of the institute’s founder Professor John Mattick, will run from 6pm to 8pm at the St Lucia campus.
