Family lawyers and long-time colleagues Tarah Tosh and Kirstie Colls have announced the official opening of their new legal practice, Tosh Colls Family Law.
Based in Brisbane, the firm will focus exclusively on family law and will operate with a strong client-first philosophy of ’empowering families with expertise, empathy and experience’.
Between them, Tosh and Colls bring more than four decades of legal experience to the firm in addition to both being Queensland Law Society Accredited Specialists in family law.
Their decision to open a new firm is the result of a shared vision to create a practice that blends top-tier legal advice with accessible, transparent and compassionate service.
Tarah Tosh
Tarah was admitted to practice in 1999 and became an QLS Accredited Specialist in 2005. Her legal career has spanned both Australia and the United Kingdom, where she has built expertise in parenting disputes, complex property settlements, spousal maintenance, child support and financial agreements.
Kirstie Colls
Tosh is consistently recognised in the Doyle’s Guide as a Leading Parenting and Children’s Matters Lawyer and a Recommended Family and Divorce Lawyer in Brisbane. She is also trained as a Collaborative Family Lawyer.
Tosh said: “For many people, family law is the most stressful time of their life. My role is to make it less confusing and help them make decisions they can live well with.”
Kirstie has practised exclusively in family law since the early 2000s and gained her Specialist Accreditation in 2009. She is also a Collaborative Family Lawyer. She is regularly named in Best Lawyers Australia for Family Law and Family Law Mediation since 2020, and has also featured in the Doyle’s Guide as a Leading Parenting and Children’s Matters Lawyer for six consecutive years.
Kirstie describes the firm’s approach as practical, accessible and human. “We’re not interested in complicating matters or escalating conflict,” she said. “We focus on clear and bespoke advice, balanced thinking, and legal solutions that are sustainable.”
Tosh said: “Our clients aren’t simply cases. They’re people going through something difficult, and we want them to feel stronger by the end of their journey with us.”
The pair also attributes the launch of their new firm to the many mentors, peers and advisers who have supported them over the years.
“We’ve both been lucky to work with brilliant lawyers and generous colleagues who shared their time and wisdom,” Kirstie said. “We’re so grateful for their support and guidance — we wouldn’t be here without it. It is now our turn to give that back.”
