High Court luminary at PLS fundraiser

Former Judge of the High Court, Federal Court and Appeal Court, Patrick Keane AC KC, will speak in Brisbane for the Prisoners' Legal Service.

Former High Court Judge Patrick Keane AC KC will headline the Prisoners’ Legal Service’s (PLS) flagship fundraising CPD event next week.

His Honour will deliver the keynote address at Human Rights and the Criminal Justice System, on 20 June at Allens Linklaters, Brisbane.

He served on the High Court from 2013 to 2022, after he was Chief Justice of the Federal Court from 2010 to 2013, Judge of the Court of Appeal of the Supreme Court of Queensland from 2005 to 2010, and Queensland Solicitor-General from 1992 to 2005.

Six presentations will follow his address, from speakers including Brisbane barrister Angus Scott KC, RMIT Law Professor Bronwyn Naylor, and forensic and clinical psychologist Lars Madsen.

“Our presenters will discuss a diverse range of human rights issues within the criminal justice system, including leveraging the common law to advance human rights, testing evidence in dangerous prisoner applications, domestic violence as a mitigating factor in sentencing and the perspectives of someone with lived experience in prison,” PLS Director and Principal Solicitor Helen Blaber said.

“By attending this event, you are supporting PLS as all funds raised go directly to our work for disadvantaged people who are imprisoned in Queensland,” Helen said.

The full-day event is worth six CPD points, with in-person and online tickets available. Tickets are also available for single sessions. Register here.
