The Sexual Violence Expert Evidence Panel being piloted by Queensland Courts is expanding.
The panel provides expert evidence relating to a defendant’s cognitive or mental health impairment in proceedings for an offence under Chapter 32 of the Criminal Code.
The Evidence Amendment Regulation notified on 4 July 2025 expands the pilot from the District Court and Supreme Court in Brisbane and Townsville, to the Childrens Court of Queensland and Childrens Court (Magistrates Court) in those centres.
This change allows panel members to provide expert evidence relating to a child defendant’s cognitive or mental health impairment in Chapter 32 proceedings.
