Seminar focuses on expert evidence

Criminal law practitioners are strongly encouraged to attend the upcoming Expert Evidence and Bail Applications in the Supreme Court seminar in the Banco Court on 25 November.

The session will examine the recently amended Supreme Court Practice Direction 14 of 2024, dealing with expert evidence in criminal proceedings; and a new pilot program for all bail and dangerous prisoner applications in the Supreme Court.

Given PD 14/24 applies to indictments presented on or after 15 July last year, its operation is now coming into full effect.

The pilot program for bail and dangerous prisoner applications will start on 27 January 2026.

The 5pm seminar will involve contributions from panellists from the Supreme Court, the DPP (Cth), the DPP (Qld), the Public Defender, the Bar Association of Queensland, the Queensland Law Society and the forensic science community.

It will conclude with a Q&A session.

The seminar will also be livestreamed for those who cannot attend in person. Registrations are required for the livestream.
