EOI called for Legal Practitioners Admissions Board

Expressions of interest are invited for nomination to the Legal Practitioners Admissions Board (LPAB), commencing 1 July 2026 for a one-year term.

The LPAB is an independent statutory body responsible for making recommendations to the Supreme Court in respect of applications for admission to the legal profession in Queensland.

The board’s primary role is to consider the eligibility (academic qualifications and practical legal training) and suitability (good fame and character) of applications for admission at a local, domestic and international level. 

Section 660 of the Legal Practitioners Act 2007 (QLD) sets out that one solicitor is to be nominated by the Queensland Law Society, with appointments to the board made annually by the Chief Justice.

To be eligible for appointment, a person must be:

  • an Australian lawyer (ie a person who is as admitted to the legal profession under the LPA or a corresponding law (s5(1) of the LPA); and
  • of at least five years’ standing (ie admission being on or before 30 April 2021).

EOIs will be considered by the QLS Executive Committee, with a nomination made to the Chief Justice in accordance with s660 of the LPA.
