The Commission of Inquiry into Child Safety will hold a ceremonial closing hearing next week in Brisbane which will include an overview of how work was conducted, key themes that have emerged and the final report’s direction.
The ceremonial closing hearing will be held on Thursday, 21 May, at the Harry Gibbs Commonwealth Law Courts Building, courtroom seven, level two. Proceedings will start at 10am and be livestreamed via the child safety inquiry website.
Commissioner the Honourable Paul Anastassiou KC said the ceremonial closing hearing would be an opportunity to provide an overview of how the Commission conducted its work over the past 11 months.
“It has been a privilege to undertake the responsibility of Commissioner for this incredibly important work to improve the lives and outcomes of our most vulnerable assets in the community, that is our children and young people,” Mr Anastassiou said.
“The Commission is thankful to every person, agency and organisation who trusted this process enough to contribute.”
The ceremonial closing hearing will not hear any new evidence from witnesses or discuss the Commissioner’s findings and recommendations.
The Commission will hand down its final report on Friday 22 May.
