Divorce hearings will be conducted by video from 31 August 2026 nationally, after a successful pilot program involving the Townsville and Rockhampton registries.
The Federal Circuit and Family Court of Australia has issued a Practice and procedure update about the transition from hearings by phone only.
All divorce hearings that require the parties to attend a hearing before a Deputy Registrar will now take place using Webex via an audio and video enabled link.
The link to attend will appear on the Commonwealth Courts Portal and the daily court list the day before the scheduled hearing time.
This shift to hearings by video brings divorce hearings in line with all other electronic hearings conducted by the court.
