Friday: Restrictions eased for some correctional centres

Queensland Corrective Services has relaxed restrictions at a number of correctional centres following advice from Queensland Health (QH).

From midnight last night, restriction levels at Queensland correctional centres are:

Capricornia Correctional Centre

Stage 3 restrictions:
Maryborough Correctional Centre
Woodford Correctional Centre
Numinbah Correctional Centre
Helana Jones Centre

Borallon Training and Correctional Centre
Palen Creek Correctional Centre
Southern Queensland Correctional Centre
Escort and Security Branch

Stage 4 restrictions:

The Woodford, Wolston and Borallon Training and Correctional Centre have reverted to Stage 3 restrictions based on advice that there are no confirmed COVID-19 cases within the prisoner population or staff in these centres.

The Arthur Gorrie Correctional Centre – the only centre with Stage 4 restrictions – is on track to return to Stage 3 at the end of its 14-day quarantine period.

QH has advised that, due to a large public sporting event in North Queensland over the weekend, the Capricornia, Lotus Glen and Townsville Correctional Centres will be moved to Stage 2 restrictions. This is due to the possibility of a large movement of the population from the south-east corner of Queensland to North Queensland. It is envisaged that Stage 2 will remain in place until September 20 to allow QH the time to establish any potential community impact as a result of this event.
