In conjunction with the Bar Association Queensland (BAQ) and Women Lawyers Association of Queensland Inc (WLAQ), QLS hosted a sold-out event for International Women’s Day, celebrating and supporting women in the legal profession.
The theme for International Women’s Day 2021, is #ChooseToChallenge, and QLS President Elizabeth Shearer began the evening reflecting on her own career and how gender equality has evolved in the legal profession over the last decade.
She then introduced the diverse panel of speakers – Sandra Creamer, Ashleigh DoRozario, Zinta Harris and Dr Dinesh Palipana OAM – who all come from very diverse backgrounds and areas of law.
With Catherine Cheek, President of WLAQ, leading the forum, each speaker candidly discussed with the audience their own personal and professional challenges and successes.
With the diversity of each panellist’s unique story, the evening highlighted the profession’s collective desire to continue striving to achieve inclusivity within the legal landscape.
President of the Bar Association Tom Sullivan QC concluded the evening and warmly congratulated each speaker.
Over $3000 was raised from the event, with all proceeds going to supporting Beyond DV and Women’s Legal Service Qld.
