Conflicts in refugee and immigration cases – principles and best practice

A Refugee and Immigration Legal Service (RAILS) online panel discussion on Tuesday 22 March will consider how to identify and manage conflicts of duties or interests in refugee and immigration cases.

The free session, beginning at 5.30pm, will provide an overview of the Australian Solicitors Conduct Rules 2012 and look at the issues behind conflicts of duty/interests in refugee and immigration cases, and then consider some case studies. How do we identify if there is a conflict and how do we manage the situation if there is? What does the new Migration Agent’s Code of Conduct say?

The 1.5-hour webinar will feature QLS Ethics and Practice Centre Principal Ethics and Practice Counsel Stafford Shepherd, RAILS Director and Principal Solicitor Kylie McGrath and RAILS Senior Solicitor Joanna Cull, who is coordinating the service’s Afghan response.
