Maurice Blackburn has announced 19 Queensland-based promotions effective January 2023.

Claire Gibbs, Melissa Meyers and Mala Heffernan have been promoted to Principal.

Claire Gibbs

Claire practises in personal injuries and currently runs the firm’s Southport and Palm Beach offices. She started working at Maurice Blackburn as a Senior Associate in 2010.

Melissa Meyers
Melissa Meyers

Melissa leads the firm’s Queensland medical negligence practice. She has for more than 10 years practised exclusively in personal injuries, particularly catastrophic injuries, death claims and psychological injuries.

Mala Heffernan
Mala Heffernan

Mala practises in personal injuries, including road, work and public place injuries, and currently leads the firm’s Maroochydore office. She also volunteers with Suncoast Community Legal Service.

Jarrah Ekstein and Julian Brown have been promoted to Special Counsel.

Jarrah is a Senior Associate in Maurice Blackburn’s Brisbane class actions team. She has a strong interest in social justice and was formerly Australian Lawyers for Human Rights Vice-President.

Julian practises in personal injuries as a Senior Associate in the firm’s Cairns office. He has acted for plaintiffs in motor vehicle accident, public liability and workers’ compensation claims.

Queensland Senior Associate promotions include Kirsten Van Der Wal, Allison Grimley, Zoe Keane and Rachel Davis.

Queensland Associate promotions across the firm’s personal injuries, class actions and super and insurance practices include Hayley Stokes, Omar Sarac, Charleton O’Brien, Teagan Hickey, Jenna Cruikshank, Andrew Herzig, Rebecca Coulter, Jermia Burton, Amy Ryan and Katharine Wood.
