Call for EOI – QCAT Legal Practitioner Panel

Queensland Law Society is calling for expressions of interest to be considered for nomination to the Queensland Civil and Administrative Tribunal (QCAT) Practitioner Panel (the panel).

The panel consists of both barristers and solicitors, appointed by the Governor in Council, to assist the tribunal when hearing and deciding a disciplinary action.

Before submitting an expression of interest, practitioners should refer to the Legal Profession Act 2007 to ensure they meet the eligibility criteria (see Chapter 7, Part 7.2, Division 2, Section 608(3) Appointment of panel members).

Applicants should be aware that appointment to the panel is for a period of five years. Matters heard by the tribunal are primarily set down for one to two days, however there may be occasion where a more complex matter could be set down for a longer period.  The panel meets on an ad hoc basis as and when required.  When a matter is set down, QCAT shall proceed to contact all appointed panel members to seek their availability with no expectation panel members should be available for every matter.

Full members wishing to be considered for appointment to the panel should submit their expression of interest* to QLS by providing:

  • a brief CV (no more than two pages)
  • a cover letter (no more than two pages) addressing your area/s of practice, skills and experience, and
  • confirmation of eligibility for appointment to the panel as set out in Section 608(3) of the Legal Profession Act 2007.

Please submit your expression of interest to submissions@qls.com.au  by 4pm Friday 24 March 2023.
