Ross Lee named a pro bono ‘hero’

Well known Gold Coast lawyer Ross Lee has been recognised for his extensive contribution to local pro bono services, being named Gold Coast Local Hero 2023 at a community awards event on Tuesday.

Ross, Principal Solicitor at Lee Lawyers, was presented with the award at the Gold Coast Australian of the Year Awards at Skypoint.

The award citation described Ross as: “Founder and president of My Community Legal, Ross and his team of 90 volunteers have provided free legal advice to over 10,000 vulnerable Gold Coasters since 2014. The clients the service benefits includes, but is not limited to, those experiencing family or domestic violence, the homeless and those that are culturally or linguistically diverse.”

Ross is a QLS Senior Counsellor, a member of the QLS Access to Justice/Pro Bono Law Committee, and a former President of the Gold Coast District Law Association.

He told the awards audience there were “many people around us that make us look good” and thanked My Community Legal patron (Chief Justice Helen Bowskill), its board, university partners, members and more than 90 volunteer lawyers and law students.
