LawRight’s Legal Walk – the power of pro bono

LawRight

LawRight’s annual Queensland Legal Walk is fast approaching and will take place on Tuesday 17 May.

The walk is held each year to celebrate the legal profession’s commitment to access to justice and the impact of pro bono legal services. Legal practitioners are encouraged to walk with the crowd along the Brisbane waterfront or at local regional centres starting at 7am, or solo in their own neighbourhood or destination of choice.

LawRight delivers two access to justice projects without government funding, both of which are at risk of ending next month:

  • Magistrates Court service for self-represented litigants
  • financial counsellor service for people experiencing or at risk of homelessness.

The fundraising goal of $200,000 will keep these legal services running – the hope is that each walker will raise $200, and each team will raise over $1000.

Register for the walk.

Early career lawyers are welcome to join the QLS Future Leaders Committee on the day, who will have members walking in Townsville and Brisbane. Register to join the FLC’s team.
