A taste of Rocky at CQLA conference

Chef Glen Barratt will present at the Capricorn Food and Wine Festival, which coincides with the CQLA conference this weekend.

The sixth annual Central Queensland Law Association (CQLA) Conference this week will cover a broad range of topics, including psychology, succession, family law, employment law, insolvency, commercial law – and cheese.

The two-day program in Rockhampton coincides with the Capricorn Food and Wine Festival, and attendees will enjoy a private cheese masterclass to cap off the conference on Saturday afternoon.

CQLA President Myles Heath said the conference had great support from the local community and broader area.

“I think it speaks to the collegiate nature of practising in Central Queensland and I hope that it can show those who are either thinking about moving to Rockhampton, or are due to finish a law degree soon, that it is a great place to work and live,” Mr Heath said.

Local Marni McGrath said she was excited to present for the second time at the conference.

“I think it is a great initiative to bring legal professionals together from all fields in our region,” Ms McGrath said.

“There are some good presentations, some of which I find to be very interesting – even for an accountant – and the opportunity to network with peers is also invaluable.”

A director and principal at Evans Edwards and Associates, Ms McGrath will talk about key elements of a successful business, such as identifying the most relevant KPIs, and how to develop an effective reporting framework.

She will join more than a dozen speakers at the conference, including Supreme Court Justice Graeme Crow, Associate Professor Jennifer Barry and Jim Murdoch KC.

Queensland Law Society will be represented by CEO Rolf Moses, President Chloé Kopilović, Ethics Special Counsel Shane Budden, and Ethics and Practice Consulting Solicitor David Bowles.

The sixth annual Central Queensland Law Association Conference will be held on Friday and Saturday at Empire Apartments, Rockhampton. Attendees earn 1 CPD point per hour of attendance. Tickets: https://events.humanitix.com/cq-law-association-2023-conference
