Oldest Brisbane firm welcomes new GM

Brisbane oldest firm Thynne + Macartney has welcomed Richard Knox, who joins as the firm’s first new General Manager in 12 years.

The firm celebrated its 130th anniversary last week.

Richard joins the firm from Allianz Partners Australia, a subsidiary of the larger Allianz Group, where was Human Resources Director. He worked in partnership with the CEO to lead a transformation and growth agenda following the COVID-19 pandemic.

Before that role, Richard was the Head of HR for Ashurst for six years where he oversaw the operations in 10 offices across its APAC network, as well as building and delivering a shared services strategy, located in Brisbane.

“This is an exciting opportunity and I am looking forward to working with the partners to focus on serving the firm’s large client base across Queensland, as well as nationally,” Richard said.

“The firm has demonstrated its ability to thrive during times of change across its 130-year history.

“We look forward to helping our clients meet the challenge, adapt and grow as industries and businesses face a future where the pace of change, effect of AI and challenges of cybersecurity will be front of mind.”

Chairman of Partners Marc Maskell said: “Thynne + Macartney has had the benefit of a highly effective and credentialed management team.

“To continue the trajectory of the firm, we recognised that the addition of Richard’s broad set of skills, knowledge and experience, will help us meet our objective of being Queensland’s leading law firm.”

Richard started his role with Thynne + Macartney on November 6.
