Thynne + Macartney has announced four promotions across its Queensland offices, effective this week.
Vicki Martin (wills and estates) has been elevated to Partner in Brisbane, Phoebe Wallis (agriculture) to Senior Associate in Toowoomba, Chanveer Singh (maritime and transport) to Associate in Cairns, and Katie Wagner (planning and environment) to Associate in Brisbane.
Ms Martin has more than 20 years’ experience in wills and estates. She manages all aspects of estate planning, administration and litigation, including advising on complex succession plans and trusts. She is recognised by Doyle’s Guide for her expertise in estate litigation.
Ms Martin joined Thynne + Macartney’s Wills + Estates group as an Associate in 2020 and was promoted to Special Counsel in 2024. Her non-traditional pathway to Partner includes various legal and non-legal roles that culminated in her admission to the profession in 2017.
Her elevation to Partner brings the firm’s partnership total to 18.
Ms Wallis works with rural families, landholders, individuals and businesses, advising on rural enterprise acquisitions and sales, succession planning and land access negotiations for resource and renewable energy projects.
Growing up in Central Queensland, her interest in agriculture was sparked by her family’s rural connections. Her understanding of the Australian agricultural sector, together with her network across the industry, supports her in advising clients on practical and commercial issues. She is a fifth-generation lawyer of her family tracing back the great firm of Wright, Wright & Condie in Mackay and her father undertook his articles at Thynne + Macartney.
Mr Singh has more than 12 years’ experience advising ship owners, operators and insurers in relation to transport and maritime related matters and with general commercial work unique to the maritime sector.
He is a highly experienced correspondent for members of the International Group of Protection and Indemnity Clubs and has been involved in all aspects of P&I correspondent work and advising other liability and hull insurers on maritime issues.
Ms Wagner has seven years’ experience acting on behalf of local government, property developers and investors on complex and high-profile matters in Queensland. Since joining the planning and environment group as a law clerk in 2019, she has developed expertise across a broad range of planning, development and heritage issues, including regular appearances before the Planning and Environment Court.
Chairman of Partners Alex Ramsey said this year’s promotions recognised the growth and accomplishments of each individual in their respective careers.
“We are fortunate to play a formative role in the careers of many of our people, including Phoebe and Katie who joined the firm as law clerks, and Chanveer who will celebrate 10 years in our maritime and transport team later this year,” Mr Ramsay said.
“We have also celebrated the achievements of many T+M alumni over the past year and remain committed to building the profession in Queensland.”
