QLS launches trust accounting course

Queensland Law Society has recently launched a new, comprehensive, online, self-paced Introduction to Trust Accounting Course. 

The course has been developed by the Society to help ensure that legal staff have the necessary training and knowledge to operate a trust account in compliance with statutory requirements. Completion of the course provides seven CPD points.

It is designed for junior legal staff, employees and practitioners of law practices looking to understand and supplement their knowledge of the regulations and requirements for trust accounting, particularly for law practices operating within the Queensland jurisdiction. 

It is a practical course with end-to-end training that will provide:

  • An understanding of what trust money is and the different types of trust money;
  • Skills to properly prepare trust accounting records, including day to day records and monthly reports;
  • An understanding of the risk factors and how to mitigate risk in relation to operating a trust account and managing trust money;
  • Training to address the proper authorities and requirements for the withdrawal of legal costs from the trust account;
  • Consideration of common trust accounting issues and reporting requirements necessary to comply with the statutory trust accounting obligations.
