Community Legal Centres Queensland Director Rosslyn Monro was appointed a Member of the Order of Australia (General Division) for significant service to social welfare organisations and the law in this year’s Australia Day Honours List.
The Governor-General announced honours and awards for 732 Australians on Sunday, including the former Women Lawyers Association of Queensland (WLAQ) Woman Lawyer of the Year.
In a social media post, Rosslyn said: “Thanks to friends, family and colleagues for the lovely messages. I hope in some way this will help raise the profile of the excellent work of community legal centres across Queensland.”
Rosslyn has served as Chair of the National Association of Community Legal Centres Board; Director of the Youth Advocacy Centre; and Co-ordinator of the Women’s Legal Service. She has been with Community Legal Centres Queensland for more than eight years.
Her Excellency the Honourable Sam Mostyn said thanked recipients for “your work of care and service to our nation”.
“To read recipient stories is to be reminded that contribution to communities across the country, underpinned by care, kindness, respect and love, is what matter most to all Australians, in every sphere of life. Recipients embody the best of us, and we are grateful to all of them,” she said.
“This year, we mark the 50th anniversary of Australia’s honours system. We have a wonderful opportunity over the next 50 years of our honours and awards to reflect our generous, successful and modern Australian society.
“To all Australians, nominating and honouring our fellow Australians is a meaningful way of saying, as a nation, thank you.”
