Former QYL President Beau Foley will be in less formal attire for Wednesday night's Better Call Sarah panel.

The second season of Better Call Sarah is about to launch this week and panellist, former Queensland Young Lawyers President, Beau Foley is ready to make his BCS debut.

The free event for Queensland Law Society student members, hosted by former Queensland Law Society Future Leaders Committee President Sarah Plasto, will be held on Wednesday, 9 April, at Law Society House, Brisbane, and registrations are still open today.

This is the first event for 2025 after last year’s successful inaugural panels, where aspiring lawyers can ask questions, connect with professionals and enjoy complimentary Guzman y Gomez burritos and refreshments.

The event will feature panellists with government law experience including Beau, who is a Crown Law solicitor; Genevieve Yates – barrister and formerly a Senior Legal Officer, Queensland Department of Justice and Attorney-General; and Lucas Davey – Principal Lawyer, Legal Services, Queensland Building and Construction Commission.

Beau took time out to speak to Proctor about his impending panel debut.

Why did you decide to accept invite on BCS panel?

“Can I say it was for the GYG? No? Ok, the most enjoyable part of my career has been my involvement with Queensland Young Lawyers. I’ve got to experience law as a social profession where I’ve made friends and so many good memories. I’m excited to share this with the ECLs and to talk about my work at Crown Law.”

What are you hoping ECL get out of the event?

“When I reflect on my university experience, I don’t feel like there were enough events like this for me to truly learn about the opportunities that were out there. I hope the ECLs attending this event get information. Because the more information you have, the better the decisions you make in your career are going to be.”

What would be one piece of career advice you would give your younger self?

“I’m greedy so I’ll give two. The first piece of advice is that every law student is smart and talented, but what will set you apart and determine whether you’re successful, is whether you’re willing to do the work.

“That’s what will make all the difference in your career. The second thing is the people you meet matter. Harness your connections because you never know when they might just change your life.”
