Judges and Magistrates will feature on Townsville’s Acing Advocacy panel next week, with the Queensland Law Society event returning after its successful debut in Brisbane last year.
Acing Advocacy offers law clerks, graduate lawyers and early career practitioners the opportunity to hear from members of the bench.
This year’s event will be held on Thursday, 6 August, at the Townsville Supreme Court, with featured panellists the Honourable Justice Johnstone, His Honour Judge Lynham, His Honour Judge Kahler, Magistrate Taylor and Claire Grant KC.
The panel discussion, moderated by Mathai Joshi, QLS Future Leaders Committee Immediate Past President, will explore courtroom etiquette, preparation and advocacy, with insights into what judicial officers expect from practitioners appearing before the court.
From callovers and mentions to hearings and written submissions, attendees will gain practical guidance on preparing for court, engaging effectively with the bench and approaching appearances with confidence.
The session, in collaboration with the Townsville District Law Association, will start at 5pm and will be followed by networking drinks at 7pm.
The in-person event is worth 1.5 CPD points. Registrations close on Monday, 3 August.
