The need for reform to address digital competition and consumer harms has been reinforced by a new report from the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission (ACCC).
The Final Report of the Digital Platform Services Inquiry published yesterday marked the end of the five-year inquiry, which produced 10 reports.
It focused on the impact of the services on competition and consumers; major developments and key trends; and potential and emerging competition and consumer issues.
Its recommendations include an economy-wide prohibition on unfair trading practices, ACCC’s continued monitoring of emerging digital technologies, and a permanent regulators’ forum.
The report is available here.
