Retired judge named new QSAC chair

The longest-serving judge of the District Court of Queensland, Kerry O’Brien AM, is among four new members appointed to the Queensland Sentencing Advisory Council today.

Mr O’Brien, who retired in 2020 as Chief Judge after more than 30 years of service, is the council’s new chair, and replaces outgoing chair Ann Lyons AM.

He is joined by Brisbane-based barrister Scott Lynch, and victims’ advocates Danielle Carroll and Natalie Merlehan.

Each has been appointed for a three-year term. The council has 14 independent members.
