Human Rights Act for Queensland lead campaigner Aimee McVeigh will deliver the Queensland Council for Civil Liberties’ flagship lecture on Thursday, 21 August.

The Queensland Council of Social Service (QCOSS) CEO will speak on the topic of Realising human rights close to home: The role of the community services sector in respecting, protecting, and fulfilling human rights, when she presents the Derek Fielding Memorial Lecture in Brisbane.
Aimee’s career in law has included senior and advisory roles, including at the Disability Royal Commission, Disability Law Queensland and the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Women’s Legal and Advocacy Service, as well as having been engaged by the United Nations Special Rapporteur on the rights of indigenous peoples as a gender advisor.
She was a finalist for the 2017 Australian of the Year awards and the 2019 Australian Human Rights Commission Human Rights Medal.
The annual lecture, named after a prominent Queensland librarian, will be held from 6pm to 8pm at All Saints Convention Centre in the Brisbane CBD. It will also be livestreamed. Tickets here.
