This year’s Symposium theme of Interconnected resonated with the legal profession with 700 practitioners attending the Queensland Law Society’s premier education and networking event, including more than 130 from regional practices.

QLS Education Director Jacqueline Lynagh said the 2026 theme and new session formats, including interactive sessions and workshops, at this month’s Brisbane event proved popular.

“The entire day was a vivid illustration of the extraordinary generosity with which lawyers invest in each other,” Ms Lynagh said.

“A record number of people attended. But it is what is behind the number that is more significant.

“The legal profession is, in my experience, singular in the regularity and extent to which its members voluntarily contribute to the ongoing learning of their colleagues.

“Regional and remote practitioners travelling across the state committed to the ongoing development of the practice they share. Early career lawyers bringing their perspective, their questions and their energy.

“Each of them a resource to the other – which at its core, is what professional community means, and is what enriches Symposium as a learning experience for the profession.”

Ms Lynagh said this year’s Symposium examined the changing landscape of legal practice and how technology could complement human expertise with seven sessions about or including references to AI.

“Under the theme of Interconnected, this year’s Symposium explored intersections between different areas of law; fostering professional community across distances; preserving essential professional values while embracing necessary change and understanding the evolving interplay between technology and human judgment,” she said.

There were more than 30 sessions offering six CPD points in-person and four CPD points on-demand recordings.

QLS Membership and Growth Director Kerrie Green said another new feature was the successful and well-received debut of QLS Memberland, designed to support members and a hub from them to explore membership benefits and support services.

“We introduced new member engagement initiatives like Memberland, launched official QLS merchandise, and created fresh, meaningful networking experiences for our practitioners.”
